Architect wins Design Excellence Competition for Meriton at Zetland

Allen Jack+Cottier has won a Design Excellence competition to create a new precinct for Meriton at Zetland, NSW, Australia.

AJ+C’s winning design delivers a new residential and mixed use precinct with a strong urban character, a unique identity that also enhances the sense of place in the Epsom Park precinct.

The Meriton apartments at 84-92 Epsom Road will be adjacent to the government-led Green Square development, with the much-anticipated Gunyama public park, sports field and aquatic centre some of the precinct’s coming attractions.
Michael Heenan, CEO and Principal, AJ+C said:

“We applaud what the City of Sydney is doing to lead the transformation of the Green Square area into a vibrant, design-focussed and interesting part of our city, and are delighted to be working alongside Meriton to play our part in that process.”

Commending the scheme’s “elegant” approach, an independent judging panel found that it exhibited “design excellence” and would “provide a positive contribution to the existing urban fabric in this important location.”

AJ+C’s design features four buildings ranging up to 10 storeys in height. It will provide more than 220 residential apartments on two parcels of land; the Epsom Road site creates a defined street edge and will centre around a communal courtyard, while the north-facing Gunyama Park apartments will be less conventional, with an ‘iconic’ modular form arising from the site’s triangular shape.

The apartments have wide frontages to invite in plentiful natural light and will take in views from Green Square to the city.
