The Federal Court has issued fines to a construction engineering company which twice turned away a union official from a work site.

Decmil Australia and sister company Eastcoast Development Engineering were together fined $12,000 in the Federal Court on Tuesday for repeatedly refusing a CFMEU representative entry to the construction site on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula in 2016.

The union representative was trying to access the site over safety concerns but Decmil relied on erroneous legal advice to turn him away, the court found.
