Consultation has opened to inform to inform the design and delivery of a new world-class sport and entertainment precinct in the Western Australian capital of Perth.

And construction contractors have been invited to submit their interest in project involvement.

The Western Australian Government has opened consultation on the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct.

The Government has also released a request for proposals for contractors to lodge their interest in designing and delivering the new project.

Situated directly adjacent to Optus Stadium in Burswood Park, the precinct aims to bring together sport, culture and community in a multi-purpose destination of statewide importance.

It will deliver upon aspirations of the Burswood Park 20 Year Vision, which aims to transfer the area into an iconic tourist and recreational destination.

A concept design includes:

  • A new outdoor amphitheatre for live music and other events. This will have a seating capacity of 15,000-20,000 and will complement Burswood Park, Optus Stadium and Crown Perth.
  • A multi-use track and multi-purposes building. These will support a wide range of sporting and music events including cycling, triathlons, running festivals, paralympic racing, community sports and a once-a year- marquee motorsport festival. It will also support functions and meeting spaces.
  • Better transport and connectivity with Optus Stadium and the wider precinct – particularly for people with a disability.
  • Enhancement of the local environment through landscape improvements (such as an urban forest) and renewal.

The precinct will remain open to the public throughout the year when not in event mode.

An online consultation platform is now open.

Further feedback opportunities will be provided through a mailout that will be sent to more than 25,000 households along with public drop in forums and community feedback sessions.

To support delivery, the Western Australian Government has allocated $217.5 million in the upcoming state budget.

With the project still in the early concept phase, however, this figure should not be interpreted as being indicative of its expected final cost.

Western Australian Premier Roger Cook says the new precinct will deliver exciting opportunities.

“This precinct presents Western Australia with the opportunity to position Perth as one of the major event capitals of the South East Asian region,” Cook said.

“As part of this project, we will address a clear gap in Perth’s music venue infrastructure and deliver permanent facilities to attract the best local and overseas artists.

“In addition, the street circuit will put WA on the global motorsport map …

“… We look forward to hearing from everyone, so we can make sure we deliver a world-class precinct that benefits everyone, including the local community and the local environment.”
