The NSW government will boost funding for the official body responsible for luring business events to Sydney’s revamped convention centre.
Deputy Premier Troy Grant says $6 million in new funds will be invested in Business Events Sydney to bid on, and secure, more business events for Sydney, especially the International Convention Centre at Darling Harbour.
The convention centre is under construction as part of a massive revamp of the area, and is expected to be completed in late 2016.
Mr Grant says the boost is part of the government’s “$123 million election commitment to secure the state’s reputation as the home of Australia’s major events”.
“A boost of $6 million over four years will help BESydney competitively bid on and attract even more business conventions and events for the state,” he said in a statement.
Business Events Sydney works with Destination NSW in an attempt to increase state demand for meetings.
