The Australian Institute of Architects has announced that after careful consideration, David Parken has concluded that it is time for a leadership change in the CEO role at the Institute.

National President Jon Clements acknowledged the significant contribution Mr Parken has made to the organisation, the profession and the broader construction industry during his ten year tenure.

‘On behalf of National Council I would like to thank David for his ongoing commitment to the profession and congratulate him on his significant achievements over the last decade.

‘Under David’s leadership the Institute has experienced significant and transformative change through expanding the various member services, programs and events as well as the establishment of the A+ membership offering which has seen member numbers grow from 9000 to approximately 12,000.

‘David’s efforts in leading the development of national policy positions have been extensive and effective. David has represented the Institute on various external peak industry boards including the Australian Construction Industry Forum, Australian Services Roundtable, Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council and Built Environment Meets Parliament.

‘In his efforts to promote architects and the value of architecture within the built environment, he has collaborated with other local key industry associations including the Green Building Council of Australia, Planning Institute of Australia, Consult Australia, Property Council of Australia and the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia. On an international level he has represented the Institute as Chair of the Canberra Accord 2011-13 and was Vice President Oceania for the Commonwealth Association of Architects 2013-15.

‘David was instrumental in the development of Memoranda of Understandings with Institutes of Architects in the USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada and New Zealand.

‘National Council is very appreciative of the tireless efforts and support David has given to Council, staff and members through his service to the Institute,’ Mr Clements said.

Mr Parken will continue in his current role at the Institute supporting the National Council while they develop a transitional plan for the appointment of a new CEO.
