Construction giant Leighton will build a massive solar powered glasshouse for growing tomatoes under a contract worth more than $150 million.

Leighton’s John Holland business will design and construct the 20 hectare facility for Sundrop Farms in Port Augusta, South Australia.

Solar energy will be used to desalinate seawater, maintain glasshouse temperatures and power the facility.

Work on the project will begin this month, and completion is due in late 2016.
