Construction giant Leighton Holdings has won a $US608 million ($A800.26 million) contract to build the world's largest reinforced concrete reservoirs in Qatar.

The Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) will build five reservoirs, pumping stations and other infrastructure for Qatar’s General Electricity and Water Corporation at a 100-hectare site at Rawdat Rashed.

The reservoirs will have a capacity of 100 million gallons each.

The project will start in April 2015 and is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2018.

“Qatar is a very important market for HLG,” said HLG chief executive Jose A Lopez-Monis.

“We have had a local office in Doha since 2005, and during this time we have been involved in a number of projects perfectly aligned with our expertise and experience.”
