Lend Lease has achieved the first rating under the Green Star – Interiors rating tool.

Lend Lease has a proven track for supporting the establishment of green building councils, rating tools and benchmarks to transform the built environment, locally and globally. In Australia Lend Lease has been involved in the delivery of Australia’s first 5 Star and 6 Star Green Star As Built office projects, along with the first 6 Star Green Star public building delivered at Victoria Harbour’s Library at the Dock.

According to the GBCA’s Chief Executive, Romilly Madew, Lend Lease’s Green Star rating demonstrates that sustainable results can be achieved without a large financial investment, and without the base building requiring a Green Star rating.

“The base building, constructed in 1995, has recently been updated, but does not have a Green Star rating. Lend Lease is leading the way in showing that smart, sustainable design can be achieved in buildings without requiring all the latest technologies,” Ms Madew says.

“We are also delighted that Lend Lease achieved this Green Star rating in Round 1 – which underscores the fact that Green Star continues to evolve and is becoming easier to use than ever before,” Ms Madew adds.

This is the first project ever to achieve a rating in the first round of assessment for a rating tool in the PILOT phase.

The Green Star – Interiors rating tool assesses the sustainable attributes of interior fitout projects across a wide range of sectors – from hospitals to hotels, and from schools to shops to offices.

The rating tool was developed in collaboration with Australian developers, designers, project managers and fitout owners from a range of market sectors, and provides independent verification that a fitout meets best practice sustainability benchmarks.

The Lend Lease fitout accommodates global administration services for the company and the Chatswood site was chosen because the building’s double-glazed façade provides good access to natural light and external views and its proximity to the train station opposite makes it ideal for commuting. The structure includes activity-based working, as well as allocated seating and a 24-hour work zone for Lend Lease’s Human Resources call centre.

“At Lend Lease we take the design of our workplaces seriously. We understand how the physical environment and sustainable design choices support the performance, happiness and retention of our people. Achieving the first ever rating for the new Green Star – Interiors PILOT rating tool demonstrates is consistent to our commitment to hold ourselves to high standards for the good of our people, and therefore our business,” says Michele Huey, Lend Lease’s Group Head of Transformation and Procurement.
