Nine people charged over an alleged multi-million dollar bid to defraud Victoria's public transport authorities are due to appear in a Melbourne court

The nine have been summoned to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court charged with more than 100 offences in total after an investigation by the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission’s Operation Fitzroy.

All of those charged were involved with procurement at Public Transport Victoria and the former Department of Transport.

Two of those charged are public servants Barry John Wells and Hoe Ghee (Albert) Ooi, who allegedly awarded $25 million in transport infrastructure contracts to companies they owned or were associated with.

Charges include conspiracy to cheat and defraud, obtaining financial advantage by deception, misconduct in public office, giving and receiving secret commissions and furnishing false information.
