A Victorian quarry operator has been charged more than two years after a contractor was killed when a tip wall collapsed on her truck.

The 30-year-old woman was releasing a load of overburden into a tip when the wall collapsed at MQG Sand and Soil Pty Ltd’s South Gippsland site in March 2016.

WorkSafe has charged MQG with failing to provide, as far as reasonably practicable, a working environment that was safe and without risk to health and failing to ensure the means of entering and exiting the workplace were safe and without risk to health.

The watchdog will allege the company failed to put in place control measures before constructing a tip for overburden by not taking a cautious approach, obtaining geotechnical engineering advice or implementing an appropriate dump design.

The case has been listed for a filing hearing in the Korumburra Magistrates Court on September 20.
