An inner-city development that will include construction of Adelaide's tallest building has been given approval by South Australia's Development Assessment Commission.

The Frome Central Development in the city’s East End has been proposed by Theo Samaras’ Kyren Group.

Mr Samaras says it fits perfectly with the vibrancy of the East End and will deliver a landmark development.

“It is important to contribute to the CBD with high quality projects like this one that, for up to three years, will provide many hundreds of jobs and be an enormous boost to businesses in the area,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

“I strongly believe that we are maximising the site’s potential with the height of this development and the dynamic mix of commercial and residential properties being built, including an international hotel operator who is new to Adelaide.”

The mixed-use 134 metre complex will include a residential component, the hotel and 10 levels for 60 serviced apartments.

A separate 21-storey tower will provide student accommodation along with a cafe.

Work is expected to start early in the new year.
