The rising cost of living paired with falling job satisfaction are denting Sydney's standing compared with other global cities, a new report has found.

The Committee for Sydney think tank has prepared a report that benchmarks Sydney as a place to live compared with other international destinations.

Committee chief executive Gabriel Metcalf told the Sun-Herald other cities were catching up with Sydney.

“This notion of Sydney as a lifestyle superpower has a lot of truth to it,” he told the Sun-Herald.

“But Melbourne is really liveable. Lots of other cities are really liveable. Sydney is not the only one.

“I think that’s the issue. The competition is working really hard on liveability also.”

The report found the cost of living in Sydney was also having an impact on residents’ happiness, according to the Sun-Herald.

The Benchmarking Sydney’s Performance 2019 report will be officially released on Monday morning.
