Tenders have now opened for the $15 million upgrade to part of Queensland's Bruce Highway.

Infrastructure Minister Warren Truss opened the tender process for the Hay Point Road intersection.  It’s all part of the government’s Fix the Bruce Highway policy, which aims to improve safety and driving conditions on the 1,700km arterial route.

More than 12,000 vehicles pass through the intersection every day, Mr Truss said.

This includes freight traffic heading to the nearby coal terminal and Dalrymple Bay.

The planned dual lane roundabout would help regular motorists navigate around big vehicles, Capricornia MP Michelle Landry said.

The upgrade will be fully funded by the federal government and should be completed in late next year.
