Donald Trump is buying Turnberry Resort in Scotland, famous for its Ailsa Course that has hosted the British Open three times.

Turnberry is the 17th golf property owned by Trump, and it is sure to bring the American developer is first major championship.  Turnberry last hosted the British Open in 2009, when Stewart Cink won a playoff over 59-year-old Tom Watson.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Independent in London reported that Trump paid Dubai-based Leisurecorp just more than $US63 million ($A68 million.

Trump says it’s a privilege to own what he calls one of the most exciting properties in golf.

He said he would invest millions of dollars in the hotel and make it one of the most luxurious in all of Europe.
