Henriquez Partners Architects were honoured with three awards and Durante Kreuk Ltd at the 2016 Vancouver Urban Design Awards, which recognize and celebrate excellence in architecture and urban design.

“The creative and innovative projects honoured by this year’s Urban Design Awards all enhance Vancouver’s natural beauty,” Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson said in a news release.

“Great architecture and the design of our buildings and public spaces are integral to creating a livable city that’s admired locally and around the world.”

The awards were first presented in 2014. Previous winners include the Cactus Club Restaurant at English Bay, York House Senior School and the Paris Block Annex.

Winners were chosen in nine categories, with added special jury awards:

Small-Scale Residential Building: 430 House by D’Arcy Jones.

Medium-Scale Residential Building: 133 East 8th Avenue by GBL Architects, developer MYIE Group, and landscape architect Senga Landscape Architecture.

Large-Scale Residential Building: Kwayatsut by NSDA Architects and landscape architect Perry + Associates.

Commercial Building: 564 Beatty Street by IBI Group Architects, developer Reliance Properties Ltd., and team of Carscadden Stokes McDonald Architects Inc, Kane Consulting, Donald Luxton & Associates, John Bryson & Partners, and ITC Construction Group.

Government and Institutional Building: York Theatre by Henriquez Partners Architects and developer Wall Financial Corporation.

Innovation: The Vanglo House by Lang Wilson Practice in Architecture Culture, developer Vanglo Sustainable Construction Group Ltd., and team of PJB Engineering Ltd. and TLZ Design Consultants.

Outstanding Sustainable Design: 250 Powell by Henriquez Partners Architects and developer BC Housing Corporation.

Landscape, Public Space and Infrastructure: Metamorphous — Corten Seawall Sculpture and Foreshore Enhancement by Paul Sangha Landscape Architecture, Barrie Sali & Roxanne Diaz and team of Balanced Environmental, Fossil Project Services, Drabek Technologies, and GeoPacific Consultants Ltd.

Urban Elements (two awarded): Bendy Straw Trellis at Mid Main Park by Hapa Collaborative and team of Equilibrium Consulting Inc., Watanabe Engineering, and Aplin Martin Consultants Ltd.

Telus Garden Office Pavilion by Henriquez Partners Architects, developer Westbank Projects Corp. and landscape architect Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg
