The world's second oldest skate park, built in regional Western Australia 40 years ago, has been heritage listed by the state government.

The Albany Snake Run Skateboard Park, which held Australia’s first National Skateboard Championship in 1979, served as a prototype for early park designs in the United States.

Heritage Minister Albert Jacob said WA was the first state in Australia to heritage list a skate park.

Of the almost 500 skate parks built worldwide in the 1970’s, about 30 still exist, with New Zealand home to the world’s oldest park.
